Summer Youth Sports Camps, Clinics Scheduled

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (May 25, 2018) — Basketball, soccer and hockey campus for youngsters will be hosted by SUNY Plattsburgh teams this summer, beginning with boys’ basketball an girls and boys soccer June 25-29.

The Cardinal men’s basketball team will host its annual TC Skills Boys Basketball Camp at Memorial Hall for children ages 8 to 17. Camp runs 9 a.m. to noon with members of the coaching staff and current student-athletes providing instruction. Camp fee is $125 with a $50 deposit due at time of registration. 


Summit to Explain, Discuss Local Impact of Cryptocurrency Mining in Region

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (May 25, 2018) — SUNY Plattsburgh and the Adirondack North Country Association will co-host a summit on cryptocurrency Tuesday, June 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Yokum Lecture Hall.

The North Country’s low-cost power has become attractive to cryptocurrency mining operations in the region, which can in turn drive up local power prices as these businesses generate fortunes for their owners but create very few local jobs. 


SUNY Plattsburgh, UVM Aphasia Choirs to Join for June 2 Concert in South Burlington

The SUNY Plattsburgh Aphasia Choir, directed by speech and hearing graduate student, Rebecca Stewart, directs the choir before its December 2017 holiday concert.

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (May 21, 2018) — The Center for Neurobehavioral Health Aphasia Choir will perform with the University of Vermont Medical Center Aphasia Choir 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2 at South Burlington High School, 550 Dorset St., South Burlington.

Aphasia is a communication disorder, often caused by a stroke, which can impair an individual’s ability to speak, read, write and comprehend language. It can also be caused by a traumatic brain injury, tumors or infections. 


SUNY Recognizes Two Cardinals with Chancellor Scholar-Athlete Awards

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (May 18, 2018) — Two SUNY Plattsburgh student-athletes were among only 84 throughout the state’s 64 campuses to have received the 2017-2018 SUNY Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award.

Senior soccer midfielder Madeline Saccocio of Schenectady and junior woman’s softball catcher/first baseman Jennifer Groat of Ballston Spa received the awards after having first been nominated by Director of Athletics Mike Howard. Their credentials and athletic achievements were then reviewed by a panel of athletic directors from across SUNY and the SUNY provost’s office. 


Cardiology Conference for Healthcare Students, Providers Slated for May 22 in ACC

Business Plan Competition Puts Student Ideas in Front of Professionals

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (May 15, 2018) — The School of Business and Economics hosted its third-annual Clinton County Business Plan Competition where student participants pitched new-business ideas to local professionals, Shark-Tank style.

Judges from area companies such as SymQuest, Primelink, African Connection Apparel, and Plattsburgh Animal Hospital and Pet Lodges evaluated the merits of the new ventures based on their commercial viability and potential for positive social impact, according to Dr. Richard Gottschall, assistant professor of marketing and entrepreneurship in the SBE. 


Student Poets to Perform from their Works

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (May 14, 2018) — Students in the SUNY Plattsburgh spoken-word poetry class ENG 379 will perform their original works Thursday, May 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. at 30City, City Hall Place, Plattsburgh.

Sharing their poetry in public is part of the curriculum; this performance caps off the semester’s experience, according to Dr. Jose Torres-Padilla, English professor and executive editor of the Saranac Review. 


Seven Receive SUNY Chancellor's Awards Recognizing Superior Achievement

Cardinal Open Golf Tournament Celebrates 18 Years of Raising Scholarship Funds

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (May 8, 2018) — Duffers in New York’s Capital District will hit the links again to raise funds for the Capital District Scholarship Endowment Friday, June 1 at the Van Patten Golf Club, Clifton Park.

“The Cardinal Open was started by and is still made possible because of dedicated alumni volunteers, sponsors and contributors,” said Kerry Chapin-Lavigne, director of alumni relations at SUNY Plattsburgh. “The tournament wouldn’t be possible without the support of everyone who participates each year. We have several alumni who have made this an annual event, including members of the Delta Kappa Delta fraternity.” 


Final Line-up of Music and Theater Productions Scheduled for May 9-11

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (May 7, 2018) — Music and theater productions are winding down for the semester, but the public still has the chance to see students perform at several concerts and performances, beginning with the May 9 and 10 production, “Ringing Down the Curtain,” 7 p.m. both nights on the Hartman Theatre stage.

“Ringing Down the Curtain” is the semester-ending showcase where theater and dance students are able to perform work learned throughout the semester. Each night offers different acting scenes and dance routines. The performances are free and open to the public.
